Some Ramblings June 29th
Listen to this blog.If you don’t feel like reading, let me read this blog to you.
Going to the art museum yesterday made me realize how much I’ve forgotten since my last art history course, which was nearly three years ago. Since I am going to be taking three art history courses in the fall, I thought it would be a good idea to visit the museum again and view the art from the time periods I will be studying. Dan and I spent most of our time viewing European art from 1500-1850, which is what I wanted, since one of the courses I will be taking is called “Baroque Art/Northern Europe,” and the Baroque period was during that time frame. Despite how much I feel like I’ve forgotten (mainly about individual artists, which is forgivable), I think a lot of the important things I probably ought to know for my classes is still intact.
Today is finally a nice day in terms of weather. It looks promising out there, and the dashboard on my Macbook shows me a picture of a sun for today’s forecast. This makes me very happy, since the majority of my summer thus far has been cloudy and rainy, as if typical Syracuse weather followed me home. Dan and I are planning to go down the shore today to hang out on the boardwalk. We are probably just going to chill and play mini-golf and eat funnel cake until the early evening. It should be fun and relaxing.
The postcards I mentioned in my last blog came in the mail today. I have to introduce myself on these postcards to six incoming freshmen science education students, all of whom will be my advisees for next year. I hope they’re a good bunch. We don’t need any more bad apples teaching science in our schools. There are already enough kids needlessly hating chemistry because their teacher sucked. I aim to be just one more person to change that.
Hope you have fun with Dan and had fun at the art museum!
I hate my psychics because of my teacher, if that counts?! Haha.
I look forward to your next blog.

Sounds like a fun day! Too bad about your summer…it’s been very hot here. So hot all I wanted to do was swim. Mmm, funnel cakes, can’t wait!
I’m sure those students are just as anxious as you are.

I wish there was an art museum around here. You’re so lucky! Sometimes it’s a good thing that you forget things about some artists because it’ll give you a chance to learn it all over and if it’s an artist you like, you’ll enjoy learning it again. I hope the weather stays nice. We’ve had a chance of storms everyday for the last like 2 weeks and well I’m sick of it. lol. If it’s not raining and storming it’s in the 90s. ugh. I’m sorry for not returning comments like I used to. It’s just been a crazy month.

I think it’s cool for us to be able to listen to you read your blog. you read very well by the way!
I hope you have a lot of fun with Dan today and make the most of the good weather. I was just in New York City and it rained pretty much everyday. Now I’m back in hot hot Atlanta, and hopefully I can get out today just as you.
Having advisees sound exciting. Because you’re a good student teacher, hopefully your greatness can rub off on the freshman you’ll be advising. Chemistry is too interesting of a subject for someone to hate!

I’m glad you had fun at the art museum! I want to take Art History when I’m a senior, it seems interesting.
I love mini golf! I need to play sometime!
I hope you get good advisees too! I need a good chemistry teacher!

I hope all your advisees are cool. I agree that the attitude of the teacher makes a HUGE difference to whether or not you enjoy the subject!

Hi! Sorry for taking so long to reply to your comment from back in May. But I finally finished with school, and am now just as -if not more- busy, so I haven’t had time till now.
With those tests I had in AP Euro after the AP test, I never really felt like studying, so I didn’t do that well. Luckily it didn’t affect my grade too much.
Ooooh! Museums! I totally just went to this amazing art museum with my AP Euro class a little before school got out. There were so many amazing paintings. I don’t think we saw a lot of Baroque, but more Renaissance and Early-Modern art, and some really famous paintings. It was a lot of fun.
Good luck in that class! Is it soon, or did you just go to the museum early?

You’ll definitely be a good influence on those students, I’m sure!
Aww I know what it’s like when you miss something like that. I stopped ballet some time ago and haven’t gone back. It made me a bit sad when I watched ballet on television.
You must have very promising weather over there. Here it’s winter and the weather isn’t very consistent. It keeps switching from rain to sunshine! I hope you had a relaxing afternoon! I can’t remember the last time I played mini golf, but I was with my family and my brother dropped the ball into the water and we couldn’t get it back.
I feel better now, thank you!
I hated to annoy people with my tweets but boy, I was determined. I always worry that I annoy people with them.
Hahah well we’re not going to that restaurant again – half of the food was okay and the other half wasn’t too great.

Lmao yeah I’m sorry that it was so overwhelming. And pretty embarrassing.. for me. xD But ah well, I’m getting used to it.
Sounds like you had a pretty nice time at the museum. Definitely a good idea to pay a visit since you’re taking 3 history related courses. :O
That’s great that you have such pleasant weather, and I hope you enjoy your day!
I’ll keep my hopes up that those teachers aren’t bad apples. That would really suck, and I’ve had enough bad experiences with teachers who just plain.. suck.

Like flying cars and such. Everyone thought by 2000 that’s what it’d be like. Well, the ones who didn’t think the world was going to end.
There’s been rainy and cloudy weather everywhere lately. But, here it’s been sunny for a few days now. Yay! (:

Have a good time chilling and mini-golfing.
It sounds like a nice day. The weather today was so humid… :O
Yep, a while ago I went through everything shortening it, it was surprising just how much shorter it became!
Haha, yeah. I’m not the best either but I’m not a shame to the family. XD And wow, it must be a mum thing. *nods*
It may be two things but they’re both good points. I hate it when people think my blog is there to look pretty, it isn’t. It’s to be read, yanoe?
Besides, I like reading people’s blogs. I did get a little bored browsing through ‘R.I.P MJ’ blogs though… :X
Oooh that’s sneaky! XD But I’m probably the same.

Hey! Soooooo sorry for returning this comment late! Some how I overlooked it >_< Cookie Pus does sound gross lol, Cookie Puss is pretty weird too though, I think it looks kind of scary but I always wanted to try it lol. Which art museum did you go to? I absolutely LOVE museums! My favorite is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My Mac has also been showing my good weather lately as well, it's awesome

Oh wow, you must really like art history. Honestly, I think it’s kind of pointless, at least in my life. As much as I like learning about history in general, art history is just not something that seems necessary. We learned a bunch about French impressionist painters in French Culture class last year, and it was really ridiculous how much pointless (again, to me) information we had to memorize. I’ve forgotten most of it, if not all, by now anyways, only like six months later.
That’s great that you’re going to advise some science education students! Hating a science just because of a bad teacher is definitely something that seems extremely common. I have a lot of friends who hate chemistry because they hate their teacher. The opposite is true too; I love physics because of the fun teacher I’ve had for the past three years.
Our weather seems to be opposite to yours here.
Last week was sunny and really warm, and now for the next few days it’s supposed to be cold (ish) and rainy. Blech.

Wow, so you’re going to do two majors and a minor? That sounds like a lot, but since you said you have a lot of time on your hands, I say go for it.
I plan on majoring in education (or elementary education depending on how it works where I end up going) and Japanese. After that I plan to move to Japan and teach there.
I just hope I’ll be able to get a job in an elementary school if I’m a foreigner. Must become excellent at kanji and have impeccable handwriting. At the moment I’m told my writing is legible but it looks like a preschooler’s. >.<

Wow, thirty credits is really impressive! That’s awesome that it cuts pretty much a whole year off. Plus you get to finish a semester early? Wow. If you don’t mind me asking, what college do you attend?
Oh, that’s cool.
I started off wanting to teach English to students in Japan, mostly because it would be a way for me to easily find a job in Japan. You see, my top priority is to become fluent in Japanese and move to Japan, and my next highest (though still very high) priority is to become a teacher. So originally teaching English seemed like a good idea, except then I realized that I wanted to teach elementary school-aged kids rather than middle or high schoolers, so teaching English isn’t really a viable option anymore. That’s alright though, because teaching English wasn’t anything I was passionate about, just something I could do. I’m more passionate about elementary ed.

Wow. Five art history classes? That’s a lot! [well, for me at least] :OI hope you had fun with Dan at the art museum! (:
Hopefully it will be a sunny day. : D And if it is, I hope you have fun with Dan at the shore. That should be really nice.
I’m sure you’ll change those students’ love for chemistry. :] Good luck with the six new advisees!

Yeah, it pretty much fits all my expectations. I really want it.. But I still have to ask my parents. I’m still afraid they’ll say no though. Blah. Mean economy.. >.< (Lol)
Oh, yeah I know. I'm always afraid when I have money that I'll spend too much. But I've grown a huge habit of not liking to spend money, so I guess I don't really have to worry anymore. : P I'm kinda sorta working for my dad in a way. I just help him with data entry which isn't too too bad. I don't get paid a lot, but I really don't mind.

Yeah I here you talking about Kurt Vonnegut, or well writing about him. It’s Slaughterhouse-Five that you really like, right? Well I think I might read that sometime soon. I like weird books too and classics. When I can find them in the library I’m going to take out 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell, those sound really good.
I’d be terrible at remembering stuff like this about art. I only know a few famous painters, but just the ones everyone knows like Monet and umm, well you know, the other ones… Good thing I’m not in your classes, I’d surely fail!
Cool, I hope you had fun with Dan. Yeah, in the past week or two the weather here has been terrible. Had maybe one day that was nice but the rest has been all rainy and thundering.

Sounds like a good refresher. I’m sure it’ll all come back to you; just need to jog your memory. Which is sounds like you know most of which you need to.
That’s need with the postcards. I wish my school did that. It sounds like a way to really be in touch with the people around you.

Today here it’s gone past been nice where you want to be outside to so hot that you want to hibernate next to a fan. Which is what I am doing.
I am glad your memory is somewhat refreshed after the trip to the art gallery. Those courses sound really interesting.
