The Grand Scheme of Things  July 12th

No audio this time, but there will be next time. Stimulate your mind! Read!

I’m back! Here I am! If you follow me on Twitter, or if you’ve been checking the site updates, you know that I wasn’t completely away while I was in California. During the downtime we spent at the resort in Rancho Mirage, I was on my laptop Tweeting and doing stuff, since I read all of Cat’s Cradle on the way there, and The Age of Innocence wasn’t captivating me enough. Anyway, here are the highlights of my trip:

We toured Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City on Tuesday. It was awesome! Tony the Tour Guide was grrreat and personable, and we had a lot of fun. Most notably, we got to see the set of Jeopardy!, which is my favorite TV show. For those of you not familiar with the show, it’s the only quiz show that really matters, period. I aspire to be a Jeopardy! contestant one day, which is part of a grand scheme of getting my life together, but I’ll talk more about that another time.

On Thursday, we went to Santa Monica, where we sat on the beach for a few hours and I got sunburn. I must think that I’m impervious to such things and skin cancer, since I never put on sunscreen unless someone tells me. When I was younger, I never wore sunscreen and never got burned until I was 16 or so. I’ve either pushed my luck, or age is a factor in this phenomenon. I am now somewhat less of a lobster than I was before, and I hope this turns into a very nice tan!

Then we visited my mom’s cousin in another town, which took a while to get there due to traffic. (LA area traffic is not cool.) Anyway, this was actually an enjoyable relative visit, since Debbie, her daughter, and Debbie’s cousin and husband were there, and they all primarily spoke English! Usually when we visit my mom’s friends or family, all I hear is Tagalog, which is mumbo-jumbo to me.

It was hard to believe that Debbie and her cousin Janet are 45 years old because they both looked at least 15 years younger. I couldn’t get over that. Debbie’s gray-haired American husband, who kind of looked like Mark Harmon, almost looked like her father in one picture hanging up in the house. I don’t know if it’s the deal with a lot of Filipinos (my mom has looked the same my whole life), but I hope I got some of those age-well genes, too!

As for the rest of my trip, we went to the air museum and art museum (the contents of which my parents did not understand, as it was mostly modern art) in Palm Springs, explored Palm Canyon Drive, ate a lot, and bought a few things. I’ll post pictures soon! Hope you all have been well!

I’m reading and stimulating my mind! :)

Why did you go to California? Do you have family there?
Sony Pictures is so cool! You can probably be on Teen Jeopardy or something? You have to pass this test to be on! My cousin tried out.
    :)

Haha Mark Harmon is a good actor!

    I’m glad you had fun!
That’s cool you enjoy Art, that’s a cool ‘trait’ to have. :)

Sounds like a fun trip! I’d do anything to get away from this nut house right now. lol. And I can’t wait to see pictures. Ryan and I are trying to talk our friends into going up to the zoo one Saturday and that’ll be our vacation.

Lmao yeah the visitors definitely stepped it up and submitted some crazy love letters.

Aweh thanks so glad you liked the layout. Yeah I was thinking there was a lot of white, although I don’t know what kind of contrast would look good.

As for the Twitter bird, I’m aware about the screen resolution problem so I was thinking of removing it completely lmao. (: It seems to work in most screen resolutions but not all obviously.

    Love this theme. :)

Wow it really sounds like you guys had a great time! :O Glad you had fun.
That must’ve been pretty cool to see the set of Jeopardy. My mom’s like obsessed with that show .. I swear lmao.

Aweh sucks that you got sunburn but hey, it’s always nice to just chillax on a beach. ;)
Sounds like a really cute family reunion you guys had. :D

    Glad you’re back though.

I’m awful when it comes to tanning haha.. I used to lay out and tan with my daddy when I was little to be “cool” like him, haha.. I think I must have it resting in me., skin cancer that is.

    What is Tagalog?

Yeah I def. still working out the kinks but I want to learn as much as I can about it. I’m still having trouble with it, I think all my comments keep ending up on the first blog, I don’t know lol.

That’s true, haha. D: But I have to go into Bio major in college anyway because apparently, knowing about animals and all that crud is essential to becoming a doctor. ;x I wish the most rewarding jobs weren’t so boring to get to, but then it wouldn’t be worth the reward if it was easy in the beginning, I guess.

Aw, yeah. Boyfriends are usually the best people to rant to. :) I used to have one and I ranted to him like crazy. It kind of brought him to the point where he now pretty much hates me. LOL. I guess some people don’t deal with the ranting well.

It sounds like your trip was really eventful :) That’s great. I so bet that you will be a contestant on Jeopardy one day. I wonder how they select contestants for that, anyway? Is it a quiz or something?

Ohmygosh, someone that looks like Mark Harmon!? He’s one of my favorite actors because he plays his roles so well. There are a lot of actors that look like him, though xd I see tons of them sometimes, and then none the next. Hahah.

    I’m reading! :P

That’s really cool that you got to see the set to your favourite quiz show! I’ve never heard of it but that’s probably because I’m over in the UK.

I never liked sunscreen; I don’t get burnt. Well I did in Mauritius, when I actually put sunscreen on. Gee. XD

Tagalog is mumbo-jumbo to me to so, you are not alone. :P
Haha. Who wouldn’t wish for age-well genes? That’s pretty amazing actually… I mean I never understood why people who are young try to look older (you know, kids trying to look like teens or something) and when you get older you want to look younger most of the time. You should just be happy with how old you look, I guess.

Glad you had a great time and I’m looking forward to those photos! :D
And… I like the new theme! :) Nice colours.
Ha… sorry, just got to say: I really like your article “On Crappy Website Reviews”. ^^

In reply to your comment: Ugh, very true. Having someone inform you of there every movement is unbelievably infuriating. Or people that say, “I’m bored”. Go outside then, and DO SOMETHING. :X

Twitter is fun and sort of pointless. Like, Tumblr or something.
I reply to a lot of tweets. I don’t tweet just tweets very often; I just reply to other’s one hell of a lot.

How are you after your trip?

Haha, that’s just too bad your parents didn’t understand the whole art thing. XD

I have been trained to put on sunscreen all the time, but I also learned that having some sun without sunscreen is good for you – vitamin D! Which, lack of, can cause osteoporosis. D: But then again I have never been one to like tans. I like to be pretty pale. :P

Ooh, I remember hearing Tagalog in a song. It sounded a bit like Indonesian, to me anyway.

I used to want to be on a game show to win money. I haven’t heard of Jeopardy. But I am not one to do well in quiz shows anyway! XD

It sounds as though you had a wonderful trip, a very eventful one too. I live in the Caribbean so it’s really hot here. I get sunburn really quickly so I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.

I like the new layout! Your vacation sounds fun -jealous- My family went to a museum in NY while I was at orientation. Grrrr. I’m pretty my parents and 2 aunts didn’t get it either. LOL

The Age of Innocence was awful for me. I was like one of two people in my English class who read it all the way through. I don’t know about the other person, but I only did because I was a goody-two-shoes and never not read a book entirely for English. And it became the opposite come senior year. I don’t think I ever fully completed a book during that year. Haha.

Omg I’ve been staring at biochemistry for so long that I almost typed your name instead of mine to comment. T_T And almost did my old domain instead of the new one. *hides* But anyway, your tweets always had me jealous the whole week you were in the sunnier part of CA!! =] Well, at least the part with more actions and places to hang out in. I’m more of a Wheel of Fortune girl, just because I never could answer past the “200″ questions on the easier, more common subjects. You have no idea how happy I am to sometimes get one of the hard questions right from stuff I’ve actually learned in class. =P Thats the moment when you’re just like: SCHOOL WASN’T USELESS!

Ha I have a friend that only knows the sound/word for “uh-huh” in Tagalog so she just plays a game to see how many times she can say it until people realize she can’t speak the language. XD

But I totally know what you mean, I have an aunt that just came from China and is 40-something but she totally looks early 30s at the most. And they’re all skinny as hell. =[ When I told them how much I weighed (which is in the healthy range) they were like “it MUST be the junkfood in America…” I always tell myself, when I’ve had three children, work 15 hour days and am in my mid-40s, I want to look like my mom. XD

I’m glad you had a fun time in California. (: That’s cool that you got to see the set of Jeopardy. That would be so awesome if you were a Jeopardy contestant! I usually don’t want that show or any other quiz shows, but if you were on it I would totally watch it. ;D
I’m sorry you got sunburn. Getting sunburn isn’t too fun.. At least I HATE it. :O But luckily I usually don’t get burned. :]
Lol. I know, I don’t understand Tagalog either. And I think that my mom doesn’t want to teach me because then she can talk about me and my sisters without us understanding.. o.o Hahah. Yeah, Filipinos have amazing complexions. It’s crazyy. :O
I can’t wait to see picturees!

Thanks! I had sooo much fun in Tahoe for my family reunion. I’m sad though because it was tooooooo short. It seemed like it was only 1 and 1/2 days rather than 4 days. >.< We really have to make it like a month long or something xD Okay, maybe at least a full week. : P
I knoww. I lovee Bermuda shorts way more than regular short shorts. (:

    Hey!!!!
Ah, California – home to some of the most roughest natural disasters in the US… lol. Hopefully you enjoyed yourself? My friend used to live there when she was little. They had to always worry about the wild fires… and the earth quakes :P

Yea, I seem to also have my priorities in a mixed up fashion. AGH! Not helping! But I’m working on it! XD
