These Killer Jewels Per Mole…  August 20th

Listen to this post. If you don’t feel like reading, I’ll read this to you.

Submit Your Work! Last post I mentioned that I wanted to start a literary e-zine, and since several people have expressed interest in the idea, I am excited to announce that I will, indeed, being doing this. I’ve decided to title it Killer Jewels, in reference to one of my poems, a feeling you can’t even. The term “killer jewels” kind of sounds like “kilojoules,” which is a unit of energy. It also refers to the great building blocks of our passions, such as words for those who love to write. Therefore, I thought it would be an appropriate name for my latest project!

I was on the literary magazine staff at my high school, and our publication consisted of both creative writing and artwork by students. Killer Jewels will be very similar, except it’s going to be an electronic magazine available in PDF form (Adobe Reader can be downloaded free of charge). I considered doing it in images and displaying an issue in a Lightbox set, but I think it would be nice for people to be able to download a copy of the whole thing, especially for those who are published in it.

Now, I am looking for people to submit their work! I am not going to create an Erin-only publication (What fun is that?), so I need you to contribute, too! Hop on over to my ezine information page and submit your work! Don’t forget that it’s not just for writing, but I need some designs to spruce it up, too!

Now that the school year is quickly approaching, I’m getting pretty excited. I’m kind of pumped not to be an ickle freshman anymore, and I will, in fact, be helping some new students as a peer advisor! And, as I’ve been mentioning a lot, no more living in a 10-by-16 foot dormitory and sharing a bathroom with 20 girls! I’m certainly not looking forward to the whole work aspect of the academic year, but hopefully my classes will be enjoyable, too. I’m going to be really busy because it’s like my junior year of the chemistry major, which consists of the very daunting Physical Chemistry and Lab! My friend who’s a senior now described it by saying, “You’ll hate your life for a year,” but she (and everyone else I know who have been through it) seemed to be happy and active in other things still.
