On Crappy Website Reviews
As a website owner, I am often on the lookout for people who offer a decent website review service. While website reviews seem to be somewhat of a trend these days, it is easy to come by someone who will review a site. However, locating a person who will give a helpful, comprehensive review in a timely manner – that is a more difficult task.
A lot of people offer to review others’ websites, but when I go through the reviews they completed, I can only wonder if those who submitted their sites wound up disappointed in the slapdash job that their reviewers did. There are few useful suggestions, it is clear that their exploration through the site was cursory at most, and sometimes, even worse, there are just plain bad ideas given as “advice.” When I come across these types of reviews on people’s personal reviewing services or on Rev.iew.me, I can’t help but feel annoyed. Wouldn’t you be irritated if you sought some useful advice to improve your website, but all you got was a load of crap?
Maybe you’re like me, and you’re just looking for a few decent reviews. Maybe you give site reviews, and you’re disgusted at the poor work of your peers. Or maybe still you are one of the crappy reviewers, but you just don’t know it!
I think the latter is actually the problem when it comes to bad website review services. These people think they’re helping people out a whole lot – their opinions and ideas are really just the best – and they are blissfully unaware of the disservice they are doing to others.
